[By the looks of things, Lindir is sitting down in a high backed chair in one of Blackstaff's guest rooms. He says nothing, but continues poking at the screen, furrowing his brows and frowning. As there's a beep from the device, he turns his head to listen to it, then looks back again. He lets out a deep sigh. This was going to be a lot harder than he thought it would be. Why did he ever agree to this?]

[Lindir probably isn't expecting his device to talk to him, but there it is. Boone was lucky enough to have someone to show him how to use his, and that's probably the only reason he didn't make any accidental videos or anything. Looks like this guy wasn't so lucky.]

[He's understandably startled when he hears the voice. Startled enough to nearly drop the device, but fortunately he keeps a hold of it.]

I... suppose so. I was not expecting to be speaking to anyone at the moment.

[A pause.]

Or are you only an enchantment of this object? Something to give it voice?

No, I'm just another guy with a communicator. You set yours to video, I can see you right now.

[Probably better to tell him that. He thinks he'd feel pretty stupid himself if someone was watching him and he didn't know.]

[Lindir became a little self-conscious about that.]

I see. That was not my intention.

Yeah, I figured.

So I guess you're new here. Got a name?

[He supposes that as part of security, he should at least know who the people around here are.]

[A face comes up on his screen and Narvin waits for him to say something. Waits...

Did you have an announcement to make or did you just decide on a whim that we all needed to see your face.

[Not that it's a bad face, but Narvin's got a schedule and doesn't like to wait for things.]

[Lindir jerks his head slightly away from the communicator, taken aback by the appearance of a face on the device. He quickly returns to normal.]

An announcement? No, I did not. I simply wished to learn more about this place.

[timesbureaucrat]

[Narvin's eyebrow goes up at Lindir's obvious start.]

Good grief, I didn't think I looked that fearsome.

Forgive me, I did not mean to offend! I was simply startled. This... device is new to me.

[timesbureaucrat]

I see. You're from one of those primitive worlds then. [Narvin has problems with the concept of tact sometimes.]

[Imagine her surprise at seeing another Eldar, even if it was not one she had met previously. Her eyebrows went up and she quickly tapped a response at her console so that her image came up on his screen.]

(ooc: It is my joy to see you, I'm Tauriel, what is your name?)

[By now he'd come to expect other faces to pop up on screen. However, seeing another of his kind causes his eyebrows to go up in surprise for a moment... then he looks relieved.]

Mae govannen, Tauriel. Im Lindir Lanthirion o Imladris.

[He looks curiously at her, since he had never seen her in the valley. She had red hair... a Silvan, perhaps?]

[And then she switched to westron which was more or less the common here so that the translator wouldn't pick up on their language, after all some things were meant to be private.]

I am here because My Lord Elrond felt strongly that I was in need of an easement of my duties, and he has given me some time to rest here.

[AKA Lindir had a nervous breakdown.]

I admit that I have never traveled so far as the Woodland Realm, nor met one of King Thranduil's people.

That's alright The woodland Realm is insular at best and difficult to get to what with the dangers of the forest ever prevalent.

[She arches a brow a little wondering what game Elrond was playing at sending Lindir here. Life certainly was not any less hectic than his famed home, but perhaps for Lindir it might be enough. ]

Well are you to be a guest then, or are you going to take up a job here as well? I myself work for security and am on patrol most nights, but if you need someone to help you figure things out, I would be glad to show you around!

[Kay just watches for a minute, then sees other people explain before he gets a chance. That's good to take care of right off the bat. Finally he pipes in.]

Anything else you're havin' trouble with?

[Midwestern American is probably not a common Middle Earth accent, but the earnest expression is easy enough to understand. He's used to this sort of thing. Nothin' like explaining a blender to a Boltian.]

[By now he's calmed down some and manages to keep a polite neutral expression.]

Many things are new to me, such as the sources of light in my room, but I feel I shall have it sorted out soon. Are you also a guest here?

Yeah. I'm currently with security patrol. So far everyone they've hired on seem alright. I don't have a clue how they do background checks but since they have access to resources that my organization is not yet privvy to I assume their judgement is pretty sound.

[He looks a little concerned, however.]

I have heard tell of spiders in the area. Should the guests here be concerned?

Nah. They learned to deal with the spiders long before we showed up. That's what the fence is for, and half of our job. If we see one start to come over, we're supposed to shoot it.

They've been easy enough to take out. I've never had any problems with bugs before and these don't have too much brain to 'em.

[The ones he deals with are sentient, so it's a relief to not have to talk to them.] Are there spider problems back where you're from?

Hey, you should have seen me with a new smart phone. Is hard to get used to. [Niko has a thick Balkan accent, and he's still mastering English so he slips up. He's not bad at it, but he does pretty well.]

[Somehow he's gotten more used to the giant strange aliens around here in the past few weeks than he has running into near human looking ones with just subtly pointed ears.] So uh... You're шумска вила... Вилењак. Like the red-headed lady. [He's had no reason to learn the English word for "elf" yet.]

[He furrows his brows as he's called something strange.]

I am one of the Eldar, or an Elf, as your people might say. Though we hail from different lands, our peoples are indeed distant kin.

[That is as many syllables as something in his language, and not all of them with sounds he can pronounces. "A"s and "th"s are still something of an expirement to him, and rather than embarrassing himself by calling him something that sounds close to "lehnthirion" he keeps it short.] Good to meet you, Lindir. [He still leans heavilly on that "r".]

Elf? Elf then, yes. I think I get that. My people have a lot of things they say, but usually different from some of the other humans here.

[Normally Lindir cared little about the differences between the cultures of Men, but he supposed sine he was no longer in the Valley he would be sure to encounter many types of people. It wouldn't be wise to show how ignorant he was and have that reflect poorly on his lord.]

That is understandable. There is diversity among Elves as well.

As in different religions or different places that they live? [But, more importantly-] Do you get along with each other? [This is a little relevant to his interests.]
