 Just out of curiosity. If it's too sensitive a topic, I understand. But how do you find a way to deal with. Being here when you just as well could be there. [Not that Wynter could just be there... he doesn't think.]

[at heart, Linda is a very social person. sometimes she forgets that others aren't] All right... [she doesn't sound entirely convinced by him either] How about I meet you at Pugsy's?

I think I remember where that is. [See, joking.]

[domesheriff]

[she smiles a little, picking up the joke from his tone] See you there.

[and she does, in fact, go straight to Pugsy's, where she waits at the bar for Wynter to arrive]

[givessweetness]

[Wynter arrives promptly as usual, giving her a friendly nod when he sees her.] Hello.

[domesheriff]

Hey. Have a seat. [she gestures next to her] What do you want?

[givessweetness]

[He joins her.] Ah, tea?

[domesheriff]

Only that? [it's her turn to tease] If that's what you want. [she signals the bartender, ordering a tea for him and a beer for herself]

[givessweetness]

[He gives her helpless look of not understanding (apart from being teased) in response and a shrug.] Thank you.

[domesheriff]

[she just nods] So... [she raises an eyebrow as she turns to him] What's going on, anyway?

[givessweetness]

Nothing. [It wasn't a denial. Nothing was the problem.] I suppose I was in a state of emergency when I... left. And now, there's... issues, but. Well, I should be grateful that I've no reason to fear for my life.

[domesheriff]

[Linda frowns] It was like that for me, too. [she pauses before adding:] I mean, I know I'm going to go back there to right when I left, so it isn't like anything is happening in Chester's Mill right now, exactly. But it's hard not to worry about them.

Or...do you mean issues here?

[givessweetness]

I won't be. I can't. [He shook his head.] I mean, I suppose that's a big part of it. I can't go back and I can't do anything.

I can't say I have many issues here. Not important ones.

[domesheriff]

That bad, huh? [she frowns worriedly] I'm sorry. That must be tough.

[admittedly, she thought it was like that for her, too, when she first arrived--or, at the very least, that she would have to try to go back later, after the missile strike. but from Wynter's tone, she doesn't think now is the time to start brainstorming ways he might be able to change his situation. at least, not right away]

Then...do you want to talk about what was going on there? [since it sounds to her like he's bringing this up for a reason]

[givessweetness]

Hardly your doing.

[He didn't really.] Well, an evil entity was emerging and I was trying to stop it. I failed, ultimately... but I heard that she was eventually taken care of. [He waved his hand, feeling helpless.]

[domesheriff]

[well, that was pretty different from the kind of story she was expecting. she looks taken aback for a minute, not sure what to say to talk of an "evil entity." it sounds like something out of a TV show] Um... I'm glad it works out, then. For your world, I mean.

[she wonders how he knows that it'll turn out all right, and she almost asks, but then she remembers that Narvin comes from the same place. she's still trying to get her mind wrapped around time travel, but she can at least assume that Narvin was able to tell Wynter about some events he didn't experience]

[that does still leave her with one very big question, though] But Wynter...what do you mean you failed? What happened to you? Are you...a prisoner back there, or something?

[givessweetness]

[He nodded, though the notion that 'worked out' doesn't really apply to his world nags him.]

No, I'm not. [He's grim, wondering if he's going to hedge or admit the truth.] I'm dead.

[domesheriff]

You...what!? [she gapes at him. he's not the first dead person she's met here--Grainne said the same. but even so, Linda doesn't really knows how that's possible or what it means, so she's just as surprised to hear it from Wynter]

I...don't understand. How are you here?

[givessweetness]

[He responds by closing down. He doesn't care to talk about this.]

Does it matter?

[domesheriff]

[she stares at him; she has no idea how to react to that at all. so she answers honestly] I...don't know.

[thankfully, it's at that moment that the bartender plunks their drinks down in front of them, and Linda is grateful for the distraction] Here. [she slides his tea toward him--and then picks up her own beer to take a sip]

Thank you. [He's a little sullen but not at anyone.]

[domesheriff]

[she nods. unable to miss his discomfort, though, she decides that, despite her curiosity, she'd better change the subject. and so she goes with the first question that comes to mind]

So if you don't come here much, what do you like to do with your free time?

[givessweetness]

[He drank some tea before shrugging.] Reading, mostly. What do you do?

[domesheriff]

[she nods; it fits him. she knows people like that, of course, but they aren't the type she tends to spend much time with, seeing as they don't share her usual social activities--and in Chester's Mill they aren't usually the kind of people who have frequent brushes with the law either]

Like I said, I like to spend time with people. Pugsy's, or visiting places like the gardens. I've been trying to explore the town, too. There's a lot here to see--more than I'm used to.

[givessweetness]

Really?

[He's surprised by that. This place isn't that big, particularly when you consider the Capitol.]

[domesheriff]

[she smiles a little at Wynter's comment, relaxing into the new topic. it always seems to surprise people that Blackway feels big to her] Believe it or not, Chester's Mill is even smaller. And I've lived there my whole life, so...well, it's weird, having so much that's new. People. Places. Everything, really.

[she's only just starting to get used to the extras eyes on the more familiar animals, for one]
