 Just out of curiosity. If it's too sensitive a topic, I understand. But how do you find a way to deal with. Being here when you just as well could be there. [Not that Wynter could just be there... he doesn't think.]

[she nods; it fits him. she knows people like that, of course, but they aren't the type she tends to spend much time with, seeing as they don't share her usual social activities--and in Chester's Mill they aren't usually the kind of people who have frequent brushes with the law either]

Like I said, I like to spend time with people. Pugsy's, or visiting places like the gardens. I've been trying to explore the town, too. There's a lot here to see--more than I'm used to.

[He's surprised by that. This place isn't that big, particularly when you consider the Capitol.]

[domesheriff]

[she smiles a little at Wynter's comment, relaxing into the new topic. it always seems to surprise people that Blackway feels big to her] Believe it or not, Chester's Mill is even smaller. And I've lived there my whole life, so...well, it's weird, having so much that's new. People. Places. Everything, really.

[she's only just starting to get used to the extras eyes on the more familiar animals, for one]

I suppose I can relate. [He's really not certain he can relate.] I've been on Gallifrey my entire life. And in the Academy for a great deal of it. In a great universe, it's not much.

[domesheriff]

[Linda gives him a questioning look] Wait, I thought you said Gallifrey was a planet. Isn't that a lot more than one city?

[givessweetness]

I suppose. [He shrugged.] We're mostly confined to one of two cities, though and the academies. It's... well, it feels insular more than is insular.

[domesheriff]

Okay, I see what you mean. [and he's obviously got her curious, so she continues with:] Who's "we"? Do you mean...that's all there is on the planet? Or just your...country?

[givessweetness]

The planet. [He's not really used to thinking of his world as a country, though obviously, there are factions.]

[domesheriff]

Wow. [she's not sure what to make of that] Then what's your planet like, if it doesn't have more cities than that?

[givessweetness]

I... don't know. What do you mean? It's fine?

[domesheriff]

But people can't live on it? [that's what she assumes the lack of other cities must mean, at least. and she'd explain that thinking better if she could, but all that's coming to mind as an example is some bad sci-fi movies that Rusty dragged her to, so she leaves the question at that]

What? [He frowned wondering how she came to that conclusion.] Of course they can. It's just not particularly... comfortable, that's all.

[domesheriff]

[she frowns back, not sure why this is strange to him] Well, if it's habitable, why doesn't anyone expand--build new cities in other places? [she's used to Earth's ever-expanding population, after all]

[givessweetness]

We're not humans. [He replied.] Expansion is what you do, not Gallfireyans. There's no need for any one to move.

[domesheriff]

[she blinks, not sure what to make of that, and sips her beer again before she replies] I just...thought populations usually got bigger. [she's not sure what else to say; the concept of a society like that is baffling to her]

That sort of thing is controlled on Gallifrey. We don't have any more people than we need.

[domesheriff]

Oh. [she wrinkles her nose, not really liking the sound of that. In fact, she doubts she wants to know any more about it, so she just sips her beer instead, letting that topic of conversation trail off in favor of anything Wynter might come up with]

What's the matter? [Wynter isn't really getting the not want to talk about it memo.]

[domesheriff]

[she shakes her head] Nothing. [after a pause, she adds:] Like I said, everything's just...different.

[even knowing that there are other inhabited worlds is something she's still trying to get her head around, despite the fact that she's now living on one. hearing about a society that sounds so different is hard for her to put into perspective]

[givessweetness]

[He supposed he understood. Having a bunch of aliens on Gallifrey certainly wasn't an easy thing for anyone.]

It's important to keep an open mind for these things.

[domesheriff]
