[for a moment, a woman's face is simply staring out at the broadcast, consideringly, as though not sure it's started yet. she's in her early twenties, Hispanic, her dark hair braided, and dressed in the uniform of resort security]

[realizing from the display on the screen that the broadcast must have started, she says:]
Hello. [the word is a bit uncertain. she swallows, trying to mask her nerves, and continues more calmly:] I'm Linda Esquivel. I'm from Chester's Mill, Maine. [there's a beat of hesitation, as she wonders if she should give more information than that, but she ultimately decides to leave the description as it is] I just got here a couple days ago, and I've joined the security patrol. I was a sheriff's deputy back home. [and sheriff, but she doesn't think two days of that job due to the disaster that happened really counts, so she leaves her credentials at that]

I thought you should know who I am in case you see me around. And, uh, I'd like to start meeting people, too--and learn a little more about this place. I've never seen anything like it before. [another pause as she debates how to end an open message like this. finally, she goes with:] I'm here if you'd like to talk.

It's a pleasure to have you on board.

I have some things I'd like to make sure you knew about before you got out there, into the thick of it.

Maine?

[It doesn't ring a bell. But she looks human, and her name sounds like a human name, and he knows the title "sheriff" was used in various human cultures.]

Is that an Earth colony?

Yeah, ah... good to meet you.

You seem maybe first generation immigrant? Second maybe?

Hello. I'm Tungwynterestemont. Ah, Wynter, if you like.

I just got in for patrol a few days ago myself, so I'd be delighted to meet up and pool resources. The bar, perhaps?
thumbsdown: (nice of you to show up)

[Boone is wearing his own patrol uniform when he answers.]

Always good to have more people with us. I'm Boone. I'm with patrol too. If you've got questions, I can try to help out.

[That gets a big grin out of him. He's happy to have another couple of immigrants around (or at least people with them in their history), even if he's far from the US here.]

My cousin-in-law, Mallorie, she is second generation Puerto Rican. She has more of a city accent now but you can kind of tell in how she speaks. Bilingual from birth.

I'm from the Balkans.

[He doesn't want to admit that he's not sure whether she means "state" as in "nation" or "state" as in "rather like a province, as in the United States of Mexico." But just knowing she's from Earth and is indeed human is enough for now.]

Yes, it's friendly enough.

Patrolling the fence to make sure nothing gets inside, for the most part. Spiders can climb up it and get inside. They're easy enough to kill, and they're only dangerous at night. Skeletons and creepers aren't really a problem so long as you're behind the fence. Walk around the village, too. Sometimes fights happen, usually outside Pugsy's. Right now we've got a situation we're looking into, but Agent K can tell you more about that.

[He doesn't really want to talk about it over the communicator, just incase.]

Liberty City. Which I think some people here don't have, for some strange reason. But it's pretty big so that surprises me.

[Kay's still not got a lot of personal touches in his office. It's quaintly tidy, but obviously a place for work and not at all homey. He's up and moving about when she comes in, trying to put the old tablets on chargers and lining up the charged ones in a neat stack.]

Hello. Come on in. [He says, going to grab one off his desk.]
thumbsdown: (let's get out of here)

[personal profile] thumbsdown 2014-12-21 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, pretty much. Seems like we're getting more and more to deal with. When I first got here, the only thing we had to worry about were spiders. Now we've gotta deal with creepers and skeletons too.

[He's used to having to shoot down strange creatures, but he's never come across anything like a creeper before. The skeletons are pretty weird, too. Sometimes he just watches them move around from behind the fence.]

Creepers follow you and blow up if they get too close. Seems like they're mostly around at night and in the morning. Skeletons shoot arrows at you, but they fall apart in the sun. Not sure why. They can still hang around in places where the sun can't reach them, like under trees, so be careful if you're heading out past the fence.

Narvinektralonum.

I first came here around six mouths ago, although I was away for a time-- business to attend to at home--and have only recently returned.
