[This man has an accent too, German, but it's nowhere nearly as thick as Niko's Serbian one is. He could speak German and let the translator take care of it, but so far he's met enough "standard" speakers that he can handle himself.]

Hallo, I'm Dr. Visscher [pronounced "Fisher"] and I'm new. I am the sort of new where I have no idea where anything is yet and I keep getting turned around. So if anyone could help me to the clinic when they have a chance I would greatly appreciate it.

Speaking of which, I'm a general practitioner. I'll be working for the resort and town. I am a human, but I've never been to Earth. Any Earth, of any sort. I know there are a few of them out there.

What is your experience with bio-engineered diseases and species with complex triple-helix genetics?

[Narvin has Priorities. And they outweigh saying things like "Hello."]

[The German accent and name catches Smiley's attention and after some waffling, he can't resist a response.]

A pleasure to meet you, Doctor Visscher. [Pronounced like a native speaker.] My name is George Smiley. Can I ask—what is the year from which you hail?

Ah...

[Well that is a very quick cut to the chase. He is hesitating.]

My experience varies with any bio-engineered disease. And one species with complex triple-helix genetics does not equal another, so that's hardly as relevant as the physiology. I wasn't intending to be doing any complex genetic reconstruction at any rate, but if you get sick it's very likely I can get to the root of it and keep your organs functioning, remove foreign objects or growths, conduct swift emergency treatment. And if I have to I can-

[He might as well just ask.]

Do you have a problem you need sorted? Do you need to come in?

A pleasure, Mr. Smiley. [He would prefer to say "Herr" but he's learned that it comes across strangely sometimes. He is noting that Smiley has a very good accent, though. He wonders how his sounds, since he's colony born.] That is complicated, actually.

I am from 2570. My parents were brought to a German and Danish settlement in 2543 from 1967.

No. No problem. [Yes. Yes, there is. But he's not ready to talk about it openly yet.]

With triple-helix genetics, I was thinking more along the lines of variations upon gene therapy.

I can, but I would need equipment and reliable medical information, preferably with a previously experienced adviser to call upon.

[He really thinks Narvin sounds like he's wanting something specific.] You could always come in and ask what equipment is available in the clinic. Is there a version of your species native to this universe? That might be a good place to start if you would like me to seek out information on the subject.

Yes, there is a version of my species in this universe, but I'm guessing that there will be a least a few significant differences between us, since time travel does not function in this universe and a few of my biological alterations involve suitability for time travel. [Like the Rassilon Imprimatur.]

Ah.

[Hrm. He... well he can't judge everyone on Dr. Ward. That's as unfair as those that judge humans. He'll have to take advantage of what he knows.]

I trained under someone temporally sensitive when I was very young, so I could likely find some point of reference.

[Private]

Are you sure that there's not a problem?

[Narvin hesitates for a moment.]

There might be a problem. Or two.

I will do my best to help, but we can discuss it where doctor patient confidentiality is easier to maintain. I'm just getting settled in at the moment, but when I am able to find the clinic and my way back again we can see right to it.

Are you in any pain? How urgent is it?

It isn't urgent at all. There's no pain and one of the conditions that I'm concerned about is a non-issue so long as I also have this certain other condition, and that one won't manifest for another century yet, at a guess, unless I'm unlucky and someone manages to kill me sooner.

If it's any consolation I will do my best to make sure that no one succeeds in killing you at any point, sooner or later, though the lack of permanence in death rouses my curiosity. [He leans into those "r"s pretty heavily, in the back of his throat.]

I'll be glad to help at all but it sounds as though it will take me quite a bit of research.

I expected that would be the case. I'm willing to be patient. [Pun most definitely not intended.]

Welcome to the resort! I'm Tauriel and it is a pleasure to meet you.

[She is trying out a human greeting for once since people seem caught off guard by the more elven phrases.]

I would greatly like the assistance, thank you.

[He wouldn't mind the Elvish. He wouldn't understand it, but he's one of those people that gets excited to encounter almost everything new.] Someone with a sense of direction would prove invaluable right about now.

Welcome, Dr. Visscher. It does take some getting used to, doesn't it? I've been here for... oh, I believe, a month and a half? And I'm still learning my way around the town.

Ah, I almost forgot. I am Braska, of the world Spira. It is a pleasure to meet you.

[Thankfully it didn't take long for her to orient herself with places or thins once she learned her way around them.]

Easily done. Where are you now?

At the resort. I can meet you out front. [Though immediately he's feeling a little shy about it. He's not met anyone in person yet.]

I've never heard of that.

Well, I'll be glad to hear more about what you've encountered since I've been here all of six hours. It seems that I missed a little bit of a celebration.

[A soft, excited voice with an American southern accent greets you.]

Hi! You can call me Wander. Pleasure to meetcha, Doctor!

There's a lotta other humans livin' here, so I guess you can ask them 'about Earth. That's one of your home planets, right?

[It's pretty new to him! There's not a lot of that out in space. ]

It's a pleasure to meet you, Wander. There is one in my universe, yes, but for some reason or another I never got around to it.

I take it that's not where you come from? [Visscher's sounding interested already.]

Oh no, I don't think I'm from the same kind of universe as anybody else here. This is the first place I ever met a human, and I've been all over my galaxy.

Y'see, I'm a traveler, an' goin' from planet to planet is our thing. I've been hearin' about Earth a lot from the other folks, but Bertie told me about planets called...Antarctica and Sweden, and I never even heard of them before!

That sounds good. I shall see you there then?

[She smiled a little knowing it was a gesture of friendliness.]

Oh! Sweden and Antarctica are parts of Earth, rather than planets. Antarctica is at a pole and Sweden is near the birth country of my parents. [Near enough, anyway.]

But still, that's interesting. I usually stay for a little while, but I get around quite a bit myself. You'll have to tell me about some of the places you've been. [He gets really nervous after he's been somewhere for too long.]

[Visscher waits outside with a briefcase with his gloves in it, wearing a tidy dark gray three piece suit and nicely kept saddle shoes and a slight cringe on half his face. The paralyzed half looks pretty passive still, and even though he's schooling his expression to the best of his ability when he meets her he'll try to put his good side to her when he walks.]

[But he might as well get the first introductions out of the way.]
