[This man has an accent too, German, but it's nowhere nearly as thick as Niko's Serbian one is. He could speak German and let the translator take care of it, but so far he's met enough "standard" speakers that he can handle himself.]

Hallo, I'm Dr. Visscher [pronounced "Fisher"] and I'm new. I am the sort of new where I have no idea where anything is yet and I keep getting turned around. So if anyone could help me to the clinic when they have a chance I would greatly appreciate it.

Speaking of which, I'm a general practitioner. I'll be working for the resort and town. I am a human, but I've never been to Earth. Any Earth, of any sort. I know there are a few of them out there.

[Tauriel appeared not long after. she was dressed simply in modern clothing (In this case a white, button up shirt and a pair of jeans) but there was no escaping he fact that she was an elf with the graceful way that she moved. Aside from her ears, the other most noticeable thing about her was her extremely long hair done up for the moment in a series of braids.]

Doctor Visscher? Greetings, I'm Tauriel.

[She asked a little hesitantly, unsure if she was saying the name right. His accent was new to her.]

[Hold on, this is kind of confusing.]

Wait...Sweden and Antarctica are on the same planet? But Bertie said that these aliens called Swedes lived in Sweden and they have their own king, so why are they so separate from everyone else? And ain't Antarctica a real dangerous place that takes a while to travel to?

How big is Earth, anyway?

[He gasps with excitement at Utrecht's request.]

Wow, I could tell ya so much about where we been! Like, a lotta times we're on planets that are jus' filled with nature, like this one where it could start snowin' soon after a warm spell, or this one that has all these glass formations growin' on it. And once we even found a planet that could talk back! She...um, got a little scary, but everythin' turned out okay in the end.

But mostly we're visiting towns and enjoyin' the sights, spendin' time with the people, and helpin' them out.

Both are true. I suppose Swedes would be aliens to both of us even though I'm the same species. There are countries there. Germany, for one, the one my parents were from.

It's a big planet.

The whole planet talked back? [That's the one holding him first. He'll probably have questions about the other. He thinks that's a pretty good way to live, though, just travelling and helping people out. It's the way he prefers to deal with problems.]

[He can recognize alien nature when he sees it, and it makes him smile a half-smile as he extends his hand to her and comes up to meet her.] Hallo! It's good to meet you. I'm a little embarrassed for my poor sense of direction. Let's hope I don't wander outside of the fence anytime soon.

[He smooths out the fabric of his suit jacket, trying to make himself an ounce more presentable even if he's already pretty well-dressed as it is.]

But don't they have to live on another planet to be aliens? And these "countries"...ain't that what you call the place outside a town?

[What is this, an abnormally large planet with planets inside it? Earth sounded like an interesting place to visit.]

So how big are we talkin'?

Yeah, it actually talked back to me! Janet, that's what she named herself, was a lonely little planet all empty and by herself when we found her, but she's real nice and can make trees and mountains and flowers wherever she wants! But now she has a moon, so she ain't lonely anymore.[Janet was one of his favorite places: to him, the beautiful scenery and a new friend to talk to more than made up for the terrifying moments.]

[She understood this gesture and took his hand shaking it. Once she had done that she inclined her head in a more elven fashion and then gestured for them to start down the sidewalk towards the clinic.]

I think it is quite alright being disoriented here. This place can be overwhelming to many. When I first arrived I spent hours playing with lights and... other things.

[She does not need to go into details about how many times she flushed the toilet or turned a tap on just to watch cold and hot water flow out.]

If you do wander outside of the fence, I will be sure to find you and bring you back to safety!

[Strange universe this little guy comes from, and for a second he's actually daunted by the fact there is only town and country as a frame of reference because it feels like cities and nations are an impossible concept from there. But at the same time he likes to explain things and he likes to learn things.]

Very large. With oceans, and mountain ranges.

Countries are also a large area of land where people that... I suppose they are supposed to work together... live. Many towns, many people. All the land around it. And they have people in charge to help make decisions that everyone is supposed to respect. Some people are in charge because they were the strongest or smartest and made people listen to them. Some people are in charge because more people than not agreed they should be.

That sounds very good for Janet. [Though he's a little astounded at a sentient planet that just decided to make trees and mountains and flowers for herself. That's something he'd like to see. And at this point he's seen enough strangeness himself he actually doesn't doubt the possibility that this actually happened.]

Fortunately I've at least learned how light switches work, so I really have no excuse. And I thank you for that. [At that he sounds a little sheepish. It's likely something like that would become necessary if he were to ever find himself threatened. Technically he can defend himself but he would really very much rather wouldn't.]

This is a very nice world, though. A preserve like this- it's a good place to live. Especially for ill patients. Fresh air. Food from unpolluted sources, whether the spawners or naturally grown- [He starts to ramble, gesturing around with his free hand at the resort's gardens and he nearly pokes her in the shoulder, so pulls it back and fails at finding a place to put it besides his pocket.]

[Multiple oceans and mountain ranges? It's like one planetary system in itself!]

That's one awfully big planet. Guess Earth humans don't have to go out to space to do their travelin'.

Where I'm from, a planet is basically what your "country" is. There's towns on some of 'em, and people live there and sometimes the ruler does, or they can live on another planet not too far from there. Some of the bigger ones we visited had everythin' on one planet and some used one particular planet for one important building.

Yup! I'm glad that Janet's happy now. She was feelin' down that no one ever visited her because she was just a barren place, but with a little bit of cheerin' up, she felt better and started creatin' things.

It sure surprised me when she started talkin'. No other planet can listen to you and change what they look like so fast. Maybe Janet was just born and needed to figure out what she looked like. Who knows? At least she's growing trees and flowers and nothin' dangerous anymore.

Complicated indeed. Was it—forgive me, I am terribly new at this—was it something like the situation we have here?

Not exactly. They were a special case.

They were unfortunate victims of location in the space race and someone decided to do something kind for them. Unfortunately that colony was on an otherwise uninhabitable world and depended on life support systems.

But they did tell me a lot about where they came from, and I know a lot about Earth as it is [in his neck of the woods anyway.] I've just... never been, for whatever reason.

[Dryly humourous.] Whereas I, until coming here, have only ever known one Earth. My mother was German, in fact, and my father English—and for all intents and purposes, I am an Englishman. From a very dull world and time, compared to some of the others here.

There were a lot of humans on Earth. People suspected that it would probably get to more than it could hold.

[He would ask about gravity, but the talking planet is strange enough and he's not sure that Wander would actually know how everything worked there, technically. Though he's vaguely aware that different universes come from different sorts of laws and this one... adjusts... a little bit.]

Sometimes lonely people take a while to learn how to act around others. Planets included.

Oh! [ That brightens up up immediately.] Have you ever been, then? I wouldn't think of it as all that dull. It's always been one of the places that I've never managed to get to despite desperately wanting to. [ But maybe he's also a little afraid he'll be disappointed in it when he does, and he doesn't want to risk that good thought in his head.]

The colony I grew up on was Braunschweig.

[Wander's not ignorant, but he's not exactly an expert in the physics of his universe. But then again, he prefers to appreciate the beauty and mystery of the landscape rather than try to explain it.]

Ain't that the truth! It's hard actin' nice when you don't have many friends, and everyone makes mistakes. Janet apologized for tryin' to hurt us when she realized what she was doin' was wrong, so that doesn't mean she's a bad person! Or planet, in this case. And really, everyone isn't a bad person, even if they're good at hidin' their good side or it's just buried real deep down.

[A philosophy he lives by, even if it does put his life in danger from time to time.]

Wait, didja say there were a lotta humans? So they moved to other planets?

[She flashes a quick smile to him before focusing once more on leading him where he wants to go. She is still getting used to modern living with vehicles and such, even if they are on the sidewalk, it is instinctual for her to want to dodge out of the way every time one passes by. None of this shows outwardly though, aside from a slight twitch of her head, or fingers.]

I agree. I find this world to be relaxing most days. Even if the spiders are a problem. It alt least is a problem I am familiar with.

[His actions cause her eyebrows to arch up before she grins just a little more. Rather than mention his odd behavior, she instead focuses on something else.]

Have you traveled around much? You said earlier you were not from any earth, but you look very human.

[To Wander's definite credit whatever mechanics direct his universe would probably have most people here, including Visscher, baffled if they were to encounter it.]

That's generally what I think of people. On the whole I've met more good than bad, ranging from some that are lucky to some that have fallen on difficult times.

[It may put Visscher's life in danger occasionally as well, but he's gotten very good at shying away from fights.]

There still are but yes, many moved to different planets to form colonies.

Many times. Some of those times rather more salutary than others, it must be said. [The war. Berlin. Leamas. And the latest, the little man walking across in the dead of a winter night. He has to smile at the name of Visscher's colony, however.] I know the city on Earth known as Braunschweig, but my mother's family comes from quite the opposite end of the country. I spent much time in my childhood in the Schwarzwald, in the south.

The Schwarzwald is another place that I've always wanted to see. My father was East German, my mother West. She had stories about it.

It was a messy situation for them, I know that. I hoped that it would get better, at least. Whatever version of it I saw was the Germany they always hoped that it would be.

Exactly! [It's always a pleasant surprise to meet someone who sees the world like he does.]

So once we find a way to travel to your universe, we'll surely find some planet with humans on it. It'll be fun seein' what one of your places look like!

1967, you said? A very difficult time. My own year—1977—is perhaps only easier insofar as we have had that many more years to grow accustomed to the division of the country. [Dryly ironic, there.]

Any universe with humans in it usually has pretty good places where they live. Even if they might not appear to be so at face value. Some of my favorite people have come out of difficult areas- they're extremely brave.

[Which he is not.]

That's unfortunate. They said all the war had ruined what was a beautiful country. Years of it, both with violence and government. They were glad to leave, but I always wanted to see it anyway.

[The vehicles are at least one thing he's used to. Though while he's not on his bicycle he feels safe enough.]

I hear some of the spiders in the mines have a poison. I would like to focus first on developing a treatment for that- if not a full cure. I like to immediately take on challenges when I reach a new place. [Though sometimes he doesn't accomplish his goals, he at least sets them and tries and leaves something useful behind. That's a benefit, right?]

I have. And yes, I am. I'm from a human colony, established by northern Europeans.

[He rubs his right eye to mask that only one side of his brow raises when he smiles.] I usually don't stay in one place very long. I enjoy the travel.

I know a little of treating spider venom so I might be able to offer to you some help with that. I do not know if it will work with the spiders here unfortunately, it would be good to try at least.

[She glances at him in surprise as he mentions a colony. She had never heard the term before. It sounded interesting and she immediately wished to know more.]

What is a colony? What is it you do in one?
