[and she takes a deep, breath, steeling herself to give an explanation that no one here has yet heard] About five days before I came here, a dome appeared around Chester's Mill. Literally. It covers about 10 feet in all directions. There's no way over or under--not even sound can get through it. And I guess the government decided that if they can't get us out, then they're gonna do whatever they have to do to destroy it--even if that means killing everyone in town. [she sighs. carrying the knowledge of what she left behind has been a heavy burden--heavier than even she realized--and it's settling on her now]
