[Boone isn't in the village today. He decided to have a look around the desert, just to see what it was like here. After a while of wandering around, killing the occasional creeper that came his way, he managed to stumble across some kind of temple. He circles it once and heads just up to the entrance, but he doesn't go inside. He doesn't know what could be in there, and Rex isn't with him to help him out if he gets into trouble. He also figures that if this place hasn't been discovered before now, he should probably tell someone about it. So he heads back down to the sand, and sets his communicator to broadcast a video. He focuses it on the temple, but he can't get all of it in the picture- just the way up, and the tower above it. He backs up a little, glancing behind him to make sure no more creepers are trying to sneak up on him, and moves the communicator side to side to capture the rest.]

Was walking around out here when I came across this. Doesn't look like anyone's been in there for a long time. Nothing out here to say it's being explored. Probably a stupid idea to go in there on my own, so I haven't looked inside yet. Could be dangerous.

[He wants to go in there, though. He's explored enough vaults and caves to know it's usually worth the risk, and he's curious. He just knows better than to head in there alone.]

Guess what I'm asking is if anyone wants to check this place out with me.

[Belloq sits up a bit straighter as soon as he sees the structure on the screen. He quickly pushes a button to respond.]

I would not be exaggerating to say that this sort of thing is my specialty. I volunteer for the expedition.

Good. Was hoping for someone who knows what they're doing. I'll be sticking around here until everyone's ready, so you won't have any trouble finding the place. You should be able to track my pin to find out where I am.

[He's taken to sitting with his back to one of the walls of the temple, his pack beside him. The ramp up to the entrance has created a cooler place in the shade, and this way no creepers can sneak up on him. He'll probably just sit there until everyone turns up.]

I'll hire a guide and be there shortly. Don't touch anything before I arrive. There may be fragile artifacts in the area and I wouldn't want to see them damaged.

[Or there may be traps, but if Boone springs a trap, Belloq figures that that's one less trap he, Belloq, would have to worry about.]

I wasn't gonna.

[He's plenty happy to sit here and wait in the shade. He's curious, but not curious enough to head in there on his own when he already figures it's dangerous. He doesn't know about traps, but he suspects there could be spiders in there. Could be a lot of them.]

I can go in, make sure the lights are on and is safe. The problem is with temples that they have traps. You must look out for this. I know how to deal with them, but uh... they're dangerous so whoever goes must be careful.

Traps, huh. To keep people like us out, I guess.

[He frowns to himself, taking out a cigarette.]

What kinda traps?

[He has some experience with those, but he doesn't know anything about temples. The traps inside there could be completely different to what he's used to.]

The sort where the floor is meant to cave in, trip wires are set in the dark to shoot poison arrows, sometimes entire rooms of explosives for the very good stashes.

We have to have antidote on us just in case, but I'll bring other things.

[Well, he knows a tripwire when he sees one. The rest? He'll probably have to rely on Niko to spot them. He's glad he didn't bring Rex with him. He wouldn't want to take him inside a temple full of traps, but he couldn't leave him out here either.]

Guess I'll be following you then. Think there's gonna be anything else inside there? Spiders?

Is our job. I have to show the new guy how to do some things anyway. Is a good excuse.

And yeah, spiders. Judging from previous stories probably creepers, too.

[Boone thinks he could have done without the creepers this time around, but he supposes he wouldn't be that lucky. He grunts, takes off his shades, and wipes his hand down his face.]

Great.

[Well, he did say it would be dangerous. Anybody hoping to come along for this can't say he never warned them.]

Looks like a pretty big place. Think we'll get to explore it all?

Not in one go. Most explorers just ah... look around. What is the word for writing down everything they find for later?

[He puts his shades back on and looks out past the communicator, checking for any creepers.]

Wonder how many places like this there are. No way we'll find all of them.

Maybe.

This is a big planet and they're trying to find them all still. They would be looking harder, except the place is marked as special. Like ah uh... historical monument. Something you are not allowed to mess up too bad outside of the village.

I've only seen a couple of temples, both of them jungle places.

Pretty sure just looking wouldn't mess anything up.

[That's all they're doing today, right? Just looking. Maybe touching. They're certainly not going to destroy anything, though. At least, probably not.]

What were the jungle temples like?

Very green. Lots of vines and those beast things. Cats. They happen there most.

They're very tall and high up. The trees are large.

You haven't seen jungle trees, have you?

No, I haven't. Maybe one day you can show me.

[And maybe they'll find a jungle temple, too.]

Wonder why the beasts like them so much. Maybe it's because they're high up? Noticed mine likes to sit on shelves and stuff, so he's above everything else.

I think I would like that. I enjoy showing you new things, so it would be a good time for me.

[He doesn't know why, considering Boone goes into it a skeptically as he does. Maybe it's that it makes it a bigger deal when he likes it.]

[It's a big place, full of strange things that Boone has never seen before. A lot of things must be new to Niko too, but he doubts there will be anything he gets to show him in return.]
