[Niko hates having to ask for stuff. He still feels bad for imposing on Roman so much for so long, but he needs money to get what he wants, and he can't do his job (either job) if he can't go into the woods or the caves.]

So uh...

This hasn't been an issue until now, but I didn't bring any armor with me. I wasn't really expecting so many explosions [or to get wrapped up with gun-runners] and I'm really need to get back to work. If anyone has good suggestions, please give them. I could use something, maybe have it imported in.

[There at least doesn't seem to be a shortage in people that would be knowledgeable in different armors, but probably all of them types he hasn't heard of.]

What sort of armor is it that you want?

[She is thinking of leather or metal armor like that found in Middle Earth.]

Really, anything so long as it is light and can stand up to heavy blows.

[He has a lot more access to things he can try here, so he probably wouldn't mind learning more about it.]

Ah... stand up to shrapnel, too. I heal pretty good, but I don't want to tempt fate.

Leather armor might work... but I do not know how it will stand against...shrapnel? What is shrapnel?

Some explosives, when they go off? They have bits of metal that are meant to hurt people, get stuck in them and make them bleed.

I've been at the bad end of them sometimes. It would probably take something like metal over that chain link sort [Mail? Is that the word?>] to stop it.

I have not the skill to craft mail armor. I know only a little bit of leather working myself. Can nothing at the resort make for you what you wish?

Maybe. I know you can order things, but I am uncertain what to ask for yet. I thought I would shop around. See what people have tried.

There is a soundness in your words. I favor leather as I have said because it is lightweight but still strong enough to protect from non lethal blows and able to turn aside all but determined attacks.

Quite true. Much of my time back home was spent arboreal and while all Eldar are light footed and fleet, it is better not to test fate by wearing heavy armor among the trees.

That is usually also my choice in clothing, except I lived in a very cold place.

How did it protect arms and legs?

Most of us wear calf high boots, but the thigh remains slightly vulnerable. Our trick remains then to not get hit. We're very good at it. The cold also does not bother us, so we have little need to worry for it.

I already miss the cold a little bit. Not so much from feeling it. It can ache when it seeps into your bones. But the relief in leaving it.

That sounds unpleasant, feeling a cold in your bones. I am suddenly glad my race is a hearty lot. I cannot imagine what it must be like to have your bones ache.

Don't your people hurt at all?

We can, yes if injured, but mostly we suffer pains of the heart and longings for places, things or people. One such place many end up longing for is Valinor.

[She pauses a moment thinking how best to describe Valinor and the draw that place has for her kind.]

Valinor is our... final home. The undying lands, our paradise. I have no desire to venture there yet but for many of my people it calls to them until they can no longer resist.

At least that is a pain we have in common. Missing what we can no longer have, wanting a final peace. [He's pretty much spent on the idea that real peace is possible anymore.]

Even in short lifespans this is true.

... It seems you share more with my kin than myself. I do not yet have the longing of the heart to venture across the sea, no do I look forwards to the day that I must depart Middle Earth for the Undying Lands.

[She is perhaps betraying her age as far as elves go, revealing herself to be rather young.]

Once there I fear any and all great adventures would be over. I envy you of your shorter lifespan. I think it perhaps drives you to see and do more in life than that of any Eldar.

Is true. I do try to make the living a good time whenever I have a chance. [It may not particularly extend his lifespan, but he still has fun with it.]

What is it you do for fun? [She was curious because there were not many fun things to do back home and she was looking to expand. Her tone said as much as did the curious and somewhat hopeful expression on her face.]

[Well, he did have the rampages of destruction, but honestly those are more attempts at misplaced therapy than they are something he genuinely enjoys. He always regrets his anger later, his lashing out. It's not a form of fun he would admit to a security officer anyway, but it's one that he had to pause and consider on.]

[His ultimate decisions is that it's not fun. It's release. But not one he can indulge in here easily.]

[Also he shouldn't say going to strip clubs. That wouldn't be a good plan, either. If his mother taught him nothing else (or his father's poor example, as well) then it's to be polite to ladies. Even ladies that are much older and have pointed ears.]

I like to go bowling, play darts. Sometimes I like to go racing. I can't really do that here, but is fun. Um... Sometimes go drinking with good friends. You know. Good friends, not the ones that would make you regret it.

I am not familiar with this bowling or darts but I will look them up when I get a chance.

Racing and drinking are hobbies common in Mirkwood as well. Though I rarely drink to excess, though usually if I do it is when I am off duty and with my close friend.

They're pretty fun with the right people. Not games for everybody but I guess I'll just do whatever seems to make my friend happy? I have a few that like to play pool.

What do you race?

Pool? Do you mean playing in a pool? [Was that a translation glitch?]

Foot races usually and sometimes horses on the edge of the forest. The trees are too dense to do much more than that.

No, uh... is a game with a felt covered table with holes on sides and in corners. You take the end of a stick and poke a white ball, and use it to knock certain colors and numbers of ball in the holes. If you knock the right ones in, you keep going. If you knock the wrong ones or the white ball in, the next person goes. If you knock the black one with the eight on it in, you lose.

You have to think about what will hit what. I'm okay at it, not great. But I like it. [He likes it because he likes hanging out with people that play it.]

This sounds complex but it seems to have nothing to do with water. Why is it called pool then?
